Baking Tales

Bilingual Books

Something warm and full of smiles is rising in the oven…

A creative and educational project, born between two linguistic and cultural
worlds, inspired by children and their curiosity, and grown within the real bakery of the author’s family.

A place where words smell like bread, and every story teaches that learning is a bit like kneading:

it takes time, joy, and sharing.

Chi sa fare il pane?

Who knows how to make bread?

The Story
Behind the
Project

It all began with an idea from Francesca, passionate about books, languages, and cultures, who imagined a series that could blend the fragrance of bread with the joy of learning.

She involved Marco, a baker and storyteller, who among flour and family memories brought to life the character of Alvaro, the kind and expert baker.

Together, they created a world of stories where Alvaro and his little helpers, Thea, Will and Olli, knead curiosity, friendship, and wonder.

Illustrations of Ilaria, in her first-ever publication, bring to life the magic of the bakery and the warmth of sharing. With enthusiasm and talent, she has translated the energy of the stories and the sweetness of the characters into vivid images.

This is the first book in a bilingual illustrated series, designed to accompany children aged 3 to 5 in their natural learning of Italian and English.

Short, parallel sentences in both languages invite discovery through comparisons, sounds, rhymes, and repetition, making reading a joyful game of understanding and imagination.

Francesca Ranazzi

Francesca is passionate about books, stories, and childhood wonder.

She is the ‘starter’ of this bilingual project, managing its journey from idea to publication with a deep love for editing, publishing, and learning languages.

Living between two worlds inspired her to blend cultures through stories, and as an endless bread lover, she finds joy in every tale that smells of home, friendship, and freshly baked bread.

Marco Tancredi

Marco is a passionate baker, a dreamer, and a creator.

Inspired by his family’s long tradition of bread making, he grew up surrounded by flour, the aroma of freshly baked bread, and the warmth of family life.

The main character, Alvaro, is inspired by his father, whose patience, kindness, and love for good bread continue to guide Marco every day.

His stories celebrate the simple joy of sharing, learning, and baking together.

Ilaria De Cecchi

Ilaria has been sketching forever, but she never really took it too seriously.

Desks, notebooks, walls, foggy windows, little notes, or even hands, every surface has always been a space for her imagination.

An illustrator, almost by chance, she joined this project because, just like Alvaro’s bakery, her own kitchen has always been a place of sharing, where flour flew everywhere; she’d end up covered in flour from head to toe while helping her mum and learning to cook.
